PIC Bootcamp

The PIC Bootcamp is an immersive training initiative providing participants with hands-on experience in the design, fabrication, and testing of PICs. This programme is tailored to equip individuals with the technical know-how and practical skills required to excel in the exciting field of Silicon Photonics. 

Developed by leading organisations in the field, including CORNERSTONE, the University of Bristol, the University of Southampton, Bay Photonics, Wave Photonics, and Anchored In Ltd, the Bootcamp provides a unique opportunity to learn about PIC design and fabrication.

Three Training Streams to Suit Your Goals 

Stream Target Audience Key Learnings Location & Format Activities
The Explorer Optical system workers, electronics engineers, product designers, or those integrating new technologies. Understanding of PICs, their applications, economic considerations, and project integration. Online, 2025 (TBC). Corporate video, panel sessions.
The Enthusiast R&D engineers, Project Managers, or Recruitment specialists seeking technical insight into PICs. High-level appreciation of PIC components, hands-on PIC lesson plans, and application insights. University of Bristol (in-person 2 days), 2025 (TBC). Lectures, hands-on lesson plans, and discussions on applications of PICs.
The Practitioner Engineers and technical staff working with PIC design, fabrication, or packaging. Prior experience in photonics is desirable but not essential. De-risked PIC designs, hands-on fabrication, packaging skills, and operation of PIC circuitry. In-person 5 days: Bristol, Southampton, Torbay. Online 2 days. 2025 (TBC). Hands-on cleanroom workshops, GDS layout training, fabrication processes, and PIC packaging.
