C-PIC & Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

In September, C-PIC team members took the first step in reaching our aim of embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (ED&I) culture into the project by attending the workshop: “Making C-PIC a great place to work.” We believe that a team rooted by positive ED&I culture is crucial to the creativity, productivity, and overall success of C-PIC.

Co-facilitated by C-PIC ED&I lead Professor Averil MacDonald and Hatch, the workshop focused on recognising why employees want to work at C-PIC and what challenges can arise in a workplace that can cause disengagement. An informal atmosphere and encouragement of honest conversation with trusted colleagues, provoked some thoughtful and interesting responses, which will be considered in shaping the future creation of the C-PIC ED&I strategy,

Professor Averil MacDonald reflected on the workshop:

“This workshop was a genuine experiment with C-PIC team, we are looking for a significant change in attitude for ED&I, but more importantly we want to focus on the overall wellbeing of everyone involved in the project.”

A key takeaway from the workshop, was the introduction of MeEDI days by Professor Averil MacDonald. An idea that was developed from the desire to enrich colleagues’ skills, wellbeing, and overall experience of working at C-PIC.

Although still very much in a development stage, a MeEDI day would allow each team member time to allocate on personal development opportunities, such as building new skills, wellbeing activity or event attendance. The team were asked to reflect on this concept and help develop the idea further.

Tom Carnay, Head of Business Operations, C-PIC said: “The MeEDI concept is a really interesting pilot we are implementing within C-PIC. The team had some brilliant ideas on how to make the most of dedicated time for their own personal development.”

As C-PIC moves forward, we are all committed to continuing to prioritise the well-being and satisfaction of all team members. The C-PIC team is currently developing a number of strategic plans covering areas including EDI, commercialisation and technology. Public summaries of these plans will be made available during Q4 2024.
